PUBLIC SPEAKING/ADVANCED PUBLIC SPEAKING
One of the most commonly reported fears is the fear of public speaking. The idea of getting up in front of an audience and talking is daunting to many people.
This course will help lessen the anxiety around public speaking by giving students practice speaking in front of others in an encouraging environment.
In the great adventure of life, each of us is likely to have at least a few times (if not many times, each week) where we must speak in front of an audience. Speaking publically is a "life skill." In this class, students will be given the tools they need to confidently communicate their thoughts and ideas to others.
-
This course will help students to:
-
Build confidence in themselves and their ability to speak in front of others
-
Learn how to organize and communicate their thoughts
-
Develop research skills to prepare for presentations
-
Learn how to engage an audience in an effective way
-
-
If you took this class three years ago, you CAN take it again! You will learn even more. You will earn another credit for another elective: “Advanced Public Speaking.”
-
Books are the same that you used last time.
-
Since the MAIN KEY to better public speaking is: more practice as you implement ideas and feedback from your teachers and classmates, taking Advanced Public Speaking WILL improve your public speaking skills!
-
Just sign up! We’d love to have you!
-
You’ve already read and taken notes on both books—you ARE expected to at least skim those books again but you do not have to take NEW notes. You can just highlight and/or underline your old notes!
-
You DO have to choose new topics for the speeches you prepare and present.
-

-
Students will have approximately two hours of homework per week. This will consist of reading, taking notes from their reading, replying to a brief email prompting reflection on what they are learning, and research to prepare their speeches..

-
Students will learn how to prepare and present impromptu speeches, informative speeches, and persuasive speeches.

-
Students will have fun practicing speaking in front of their peers every week!

-
Students will earn a 1/2 credit in an elective: HPublic Speaking. Parents are responsible for managing the transcript for their student. The teacher will communicate the end-of-course grade within 2 weeks of the final class date.
